Friday 16th July

The day started at the office with "bwana" Lawrence and us having an update meeting on the progress. We discussed the press release and how we would work with our supporters at Geolodges to raise awareness of the project. After catching up with Michael the Secretary General and Catherine in the comms team, we headed out of town to Moonberg lager. We met up with Cliff and Fred and discussed how we all enjoyed working together on the 2009 project. Cliff was with us for most of the time last year and as he knows Reading (where, according to Martin, is where the best football team are based), is a top, top person!!!

Last year Moonberg drove with us and played music and road safety messages through their PA lorry but also ran promotional events in the evening for the community but also gave the message "Never drink and drive"... The Moonberg team are hoping to be with us from Thursday when we leave Tororo and following a lorry with a picture of a cold glass of beer on does get us through the hills... But don't forget to give us a cold beer at the end of the run this year please Cliff...

After visiting Moonberg we travelled to Seta and met Prashanta Chowdhury the National Sales Manager at the Rwenzori Bottling company. It was a pleasure meeting Prashanta who is a great person and was really pleased to hear about the success of last year and was very keen to support us this year. We hope to see Prashanta and the Rwenzori team during our run and at the final event. We then picked up the cases of water for the long run that starts in only a few days.

We travelled back to Kampala and after a quick catch up, received the agreed press release which we then delivered to Emily at Geolodges. Following a debrief meeting between Jane, Martin and the head of delegation (Muhammad), we started to plan the final 2 days in Kampala and what we need to achieve before we travelled to the field.

We greeted Mr Ramakrishnan the general manager at the Fairway Hotel and arranged a meeting for Saturday to discuss the arrangements for the closing event and auction. The Fairway are generously letting us use their gardens to hold the event and also use their chairs and tables. We realised that we would need a tent for the event on Monday the 26th July as shelter from the sun. After a quick call to Godfrey at Inside Uganda tours, we think we have it solved.... thanks Godfrey.
