After a quick breakfast at 7.15am, we started the day with a planning meeting with the team at the Red Cross HQ. It was good to catch up with old friends, continue planning but also realise the large task that is in hand to organise the whole event... and that is without the positive challenge of running 400km!!!
We visited Emily and the team at GEOlodges (the best lodges in east africa and dare i say the world). The company believes in eco tourism but also has a social conscience in supporting the communities. If you are ever in Uganda you must visit one of their lodges, an oasis isn't good enough to describe them!! Anyway, Emily has kindly donated an item for our auction, advice, contacts and also support during the run. We also gained good support from the Fairway hotel in support for our final event and now we must work on the support for drinks at the event. The support we get from our sponsors in Uganda will be vital in ensuring the event is a success and we maximise the impact to the community.
In the afternoon we had a planning meeting with branch field co-ordinators for the 9 branches we are working with along the route of the run. Each of them will be managing the events, volunteers and local delivery which helps us to reach so many young people and communities. We will be meeting with them all again next week at their branches to support in the preparation and address the challenges.
Its been a long few days and we are having meetings in the evening to ensure we get everything organised in time but tomorrow we will have to have a break at 5pm to get our trainers on and start running!!!!!
