The day started early with the updating of the website and planning the meetings for the day. We started with a meeting at the Red Cross HQ with some discussions on the current challenges and how we address these. We then travelled to Kampala East branch to discuss the current arrangements for the project in their area. With the current situation we are advised that big gatherings aren't ideal, so in Kampala the teams will be training smaller groups in schools, through partnerships e.g. the motor bike taxi drivers and other community groups. The arrangements for the final event on arrival in Kampala and the auctions are being planned subject to change (depending on the situation). It was a good meeting and its great to have Kampala East onboard and ready to support the delivery of the final event. The traffic and roads in Kampala always mean a simple trip takes a long time, as you can see, the odd obstacle got in our way!
We visited Emily at Geolodges Africa, to check on the arrangements for their support and also their engagement in the running when we are at the rain forest. After this meeting we continued to contact potential sponsors for the project. We travelled through Kampala to visit Moonberg Lager and caught up with Cliff who supported us last year, however they weren't available today but we have been invited to a meeting in the morning.
At the end of the day we received an email back from the Rwenzori Bottling Company who produce Rwenzori mineral water. Mr Chowdhury and the team at Rwenzori have agreed to supply the runners with 25 cases of water. This is fantastic news and we are over the moon, as without the water we would find the run almost impossible... and it's also the best mineral water in East Africa.
